Service Description
This course is perfect for beginners who are interested in developing confidence in their pottery skills and are looking for an engaging, creative activity for a couple weeks or even a lifelong hobby. This handbuilding course is a fun, relaxing gateway to pottery, exploring traditional techinques practised since 28,000 BCE. Beginners classes are a mix of closely guided tutoring and self directed development. Students will expand upon their previous knowledge of clay and also learn about clay manipulation at several stages of the process including building, carving, and glazing. We aim to make sure students leave with more skills, confidence, and several pieces of work that are truly handmade from start to finish. Some of the techniques and methods covered in this class included: Coiling, Slab building, handle making, pinch pot, carving and engraving, and glazing. -They are no added costs- all clay, glazes, and firings are included in the course price -Please prepare for the class by cutting your nails short, wearing clothes you don't mind getting dirty (clay does come out easily in the wash), and bringing a tea towel and a plastic bag We understand that a 6 week commitment is a big ask. Classes that are missed can either be made up by attending another course's identical class (offered once per course to each student) or in a self directed drop in, which both can be arranged by emailing us at nam@cernamic.com. If you know you will miss a class please let us know in advance so we can figure out the best way to accommodate.
